Holiday Packaging Design
Timbertrain Coffee Roasters
In winter 2017 I was asked by Timbertrain Coffee Roasters to create a unique packaging design for their special holiday coffee. This packaging would be used to for a limited edition holiday release. The project involved collaborations with (Illustrator) Kat McClure and Porchlight Press.
As this was acting as a limited holiday edition, special planning was needing to create a design that stood out and captivated the attention of customers. The users for this project encompassed the customers that would visit the Timbertrain Cafe this was on average younger adults between 25-30, living affluently, and working as a creative in downtown Vancouver.
The visual design process began with an illustrated sketch that was based off of the diagonal lines found within the company brand guide. These lines then were used to create a design that related the business to the local community in Vancouver, including the mountains, rain, and forests prominent in the area. This illustrated element was used to add visual appeal and creativity while still remaining in line with the graphic elements in the brand guide. The sketch was then turned into a digital vector file to work with and transfer to the product dieline.
Once the design was placed into the dieline we were able to insert the brand information and gain a better understanding of the relationship of shapes throughout the packaging. After visualizing this we altered the interior side to be better relate to the visuals on the front sleeve.
After iterations with the client and minor changes to the design, the file was sent to the printers at Porchlight Press to produce the packaging. The process included Foil Embossing in multiple colours to create this beautiful final product.
